EBOOK or KINDLE Kate Alf
S friend and Marcus the other main character is Alf s friend and the storyline involving the best friends was lovely Then there is Kate s job she works at an old person s care home and her friendships with some of the elderly residents are a real delight to read about I didn t have unrealistic expectations about this book Normally with books I read published by Harper Impulse I get a nice romance which is an easy read to while away a few hours and that is exactly what I got from this book Alf was just generally an unlike able character I really didn t like the way he was portrayed but then again I don t think the other characters liked him that much and that he wasn t meant to be a loveable romantic heroThis isn t the best book you will read this year but if you are wanting something relatively uncomplex to read to while away a few hours this works well for this sort of purposeAs a debut its a good effort and I will be interested to see what else Carrie Stone writes as her career progresses When Kate receives a puppy at her birthday party instead of a much longed for engagement ring she has cause to re evaluate their relationship Alf s friend Marcus turns up on their doorstep and stays with them for a while He s very attentive and interested in chatting he makes the comparison telling Then Alf is offered a job in Scotland and accepts it without even discussing it with herKate enjoys her work in a retirement home and is encouraged by Marcus to show her paintings again She starts painting and really loves the creative side to her lifeThis is a story about friendship love acceptance and hope Things CAN turn out the way you want them to if you aren t afraid to follow the path that leads thereI really enjoyed this oneMany thanks to Net Galley for a copy of this book Dreaming With Open EyesActual Rating 25I indly received Kate Alf in exchange of an honest review by the authorThe first time Kate met Alf and she locked eyes with him she d a six sense feeling he going to be in her life forever Seven years and a miscarriage later things start to break Kate is desperatly waiting for Alf to propose to her On her thirty second birthday she thinks he ll pop the uestion but all she gets is a puppy Their relationship is dulled and in need of a repair It leaves Kate wondering once again where their relationship is heading What if Alf didn t want the same things as her in the future Alf is absolutely cluless and thinks everything is fine When Alf gets a job offer away in Scotland he thinks Kate will just leave everything behind to go with him He hopes for a fresh start and a better future It turns out Kate does not think so Will they overcome their obstacles or are they over for goodWhen the cover for Kate Alf had been revealed I was enchanted You all now I am sucker for a beautiful cover This is outstanding and beautiful I think it s the best one Haper Impulse has ever designed Amazing job guys Therefor I was so happy when Carrie sent me a review copy of her novel The saying don t juge a book by it s cover fits in this case Unfortunately there is not always a amazing story behind a outstanding coverI d like to start with the things I liked about this book exept the cover I very enjoyed and liked Carrie Stones writing style I think it s very beautiful Not only beautiful also detailed which made it easy for me to settle into the story very uickly When Kate and Alf temporary go their seperate ways we follow the story out of their point of view The reader does not only follow the couples point of view also of Megan Kates best friend and a few others For many people it might be confusing but I thought it enriched the story and made it lively Kate works as a nurse in a retirement home Kate cares a lot about the residents She is good friends with Lillian and Vivian They were my favourite background characters They brought some good fun into the story A character I did not warm up at all was Alf There was no connection and I think he was too much focused on himself I was not happy with some happenings in the story and where the story was leading but the I read the it made sense and I was happy for Kate in the endApart of all these Kate and Alf is a very ordinary Chick Lit novel Sadly it s nothing I d remember in the long run This book needs a breath of fresh air some real excitement with a bunch of fireworks We follow the characters in everyday life situation which is nothing too exciting There were things I liked and things I didn t liked The characters had potential interesting backgrounds secrets they hide Kate Alf is certainly not a bad book Based on the writing it s obvious the author has a lot of potential and suitable writing background I m willing to give Carrie s upcoming releases another chance When Kate expects a marriage proposal from her partner Alf at her birthday party and instead receives a puppy she begins to examine their long term Y is The One Then Alf’s friend Marcus needs a place to stay With his dark eyes easygoing manner and ind concern for Kate Marcus is everything Alf is not and it's not long before Kate begins to wonder if there’s to life than diamon.

EBOOK or KINDLE Kate Alf
The Bottom LinezMeh That s what I felt most of the time about Kate and Alf I liked the cover but I struggled with this book picking it up and putting it back down at various times since I got it The writing style wasn t bad but I will admit for me the hook is always the romance and here I didn t like Alf or Mark But if you love chick lit then perhaps you may feel differentlyARC provided by publisher via netgalley in exchange for an honest review 35 starsAn enjoyable debut from Carrie StoneI enjoyed the author s writing in this very real life story of Kate and Alf s relationship when as women do Kate begins to uestion their future and has expectations of taking the next step down the wedding aisle Alf it seems isn t so uick on the uptake and completely misses the signs that seem so obvious to Kate An embarrassing situation and much disappointment stirs Kate s realisation of how her life has adjusted to suit Alf the man she loves but seems to have accepted in a way you do that comfy old shoe It s not the best shoe but it s yours and you now it fits until it begins to rub Exactly what Alf is starting to do with KateIt takes the secondary characters in the story to nudge Kate into thinking that her future might not involve Alf and her journey plods along nicely But as I have mentioned this story is very real and I think I expected a little drama to unfold along the wayA lovely read with a very sweet endingARC provided from Netgalley in return for an honest review Not a barn burner or even particularly fast paced Kate Alf is a character driven story that focuses on relationships and finding the courage to find happiness Stone doesn t beat readers over the head with dramatic events for it is rarely great dramatic moments that define us rather the subtle slights and missed moments that slowly erode self confidence and happiness and often have people obsessing about their relationships lives and what next Kate was hard not to like even as I wanted to shake her but she had completely valid reasons for not wanting to rock the boat in her relationship or even in her life She views her childhood as a series of losses everyone she loves is taken from her and that makes her a bit too attached to what feels secure even as it is flawed After seven years with Alf she is expecting a proposal but he just misses that train entirely On the other hand Alf started as dismissive and self obsessed full of petty jealousies and a need to be in control his inability to see that he may have a hand in their relationship issues is beyond his comprehension and even when he sees an issue it s never his fault His refusal to inform Kate about the simplest things because It s only a few days or it will put us in a better financial position is typical And really who believes that a puppy is an appropriate present with BOTH of them work than 40 hours a week Yeah That guy So by now you have guessed that I m on Kate s side but she was not perfect refusing to have those discussions and share her feelings speaking out rather than remaining silent when Alf is an Oaf refusing to step out of the box she has placed herself in No Kate wasn t perfect but she had a solid core of strength coupled with genuine compassion for others and several very loyal friends Most prominent in her friends are Viv and Lil from the care home and Megan her childhood friend Viv and Lil are fiercely protective while adding some comic relief Viv s Guinness addiction and her sense about people that had her handing out advice and reading tea leaves Lil the 5 times married woman who has tales of her youth and the one that got away Megan who doesn t think Alf is good enough for her and despite her own personal difficulties with her alcoholic younger brother is always there for Kate to turn to When Alf s boyhood friend Marcus appears and he and Kate strike up a solid friendship that opens Kate to see what she had left behind and realize that she wasn t happy Slowly but surely Kate moves forward with several missteps along the way realizing what she had lost trying to regain a new view and discovering her renewed passion for her art While never a straightforward path Kate s growth and change are palpable and we see her let go of her apologetic and insecure approach to asking for what she needs to a confident and determined step forward The seeming one step forward three steps back journey isn t dramatic or fast paced like life there are many missteps and corrections along the journey to finding yourself And while Kate doesn t make instant changes her growth and belief in herself and her ability to find happiness is a learning curve for her Carrie Stone has created a story that will speak to many the clear depictions of how being stuck in a rut is mind numbing and soul sucking but only courage and belief that wanting is the cure I received an eArc copy of the title from the publisher via NetGalley for pu. Kate loves Alf And Alf loves Kate Doesn’t heKate can’t wait for her long term boyfriend Alf to propose So he might be a bit of a control freak who’s obsessed with his career and he also seems to have conveniently forgotten their.
Rpose of honest review I was not compensated for this review all conclusions are my own responsibility Kate was all dressed to the nines because she had this feeling that her boyfriend Alf was going to propose on her 32nd birthday Oh what a big night it turned out to be yes it was Except she got a puppy instead of a diamond ring on her fingersKate Alf had been together for than six years and Kate wanted their relationship to ick it up a notch But no can do Alf was insensitive to her needs and dreams He Loveknot (Welcome to Tyler, kept on working his ass off forgetting what Kate truly wanted Then came Marcus his bestfriend who had unknowingly changed Kate in ways than one Alf couldn t help but feel threatened And then there s Megan Kate s BFF who seemed to irk Alf most of ALL the time The couple couldn t seem to find a common ground They even had no time to talk to each other and discuss their real problem or about their future Until Scotland came into the picture Oh myI have mixed feelings about this book I felt that I was emotionally drained after reading Kate Alf s roller coaster yet seemingly unending relationship Alf was theind of boyfriend any woman would dump because of being a workaholic and insensitive and dull If I were in Kate s shoes I wouldn t last a year with Alf seriously that guy had no charisma nor even a funny bone I don t want to blame Alf for all the predicament they d been under but I really can t help but feel sorry and pity for him The problem with them is they don t communicate They don t tell each other their feelings their thoughts their ideas their emotions The final two chapters took me by surprise and somehow that part redeemed the book Would I still recommend this book Yes because somehow this book contains some lessons to be learned about relationships and there are other interesting characters that will make the reader sigh with delight It s the second book I read recently that the POV changes for a paragraph to another in the same chapter and dear gods I don t like itNot that it s difficult to understand but it s annoying I d rather have separate chapters even small ones The story in itself wasn t bad you d think it was a romance and in a way it is but it felt way to serious and did not bring any feeling except of annoyement toward Alf the first what a selfish man I The Perfect Blend know he was mean to be one but I wish I did not have to suffer him all book longThe good part is the the supporting characters but I don t think it s enough and while I read the book pretty uickly it is readable I did not really enjoyed itI got an e copy of this book via Netgalley in exhange for an honest review Jane Hunt Writer First StepsJane Hunt Writer Book Reviews FacebookJane Hunt Writer Book Reviews GoogleIt s important to remember Kate and Alf is women s fiction not romance The story centres on Kate s and details her growth and empowerment The romance is significant but not central to this story The characters Kate encounters are as important as Alf the focus for Kate s romantic aspirationsAlf is a difficult character to like he puts the self into selfish but he does illustrate vividly the point you can t help who you fall in love withKate puts up with Alf because her life is plagued with loss She can t bear to be alone again I want her to be assertive at times but it adds to the story s realism that she isn t I empathise with her journey and applaud her courage as she takes the steps she never thought she couldMegan and Marcus are well written and likeable They cleverly highlight important stages in Kate s life The give and take in Lillian s and Vivian s rapport with Kate highlights Kate s and Alf s one sided relationshipThe story s slow pacing mirrors Kate s life and makes the good things impact in a meaningful way I did wonder if the book would be easier to read if it was broken up into parts to coincide with these changes The unexpected plot twists in the last few chapters make experiencing Kate s angst ridden life worthwhile for me Kate and Alf is a story of self discovery The ending perfectly reflects Kate s emotional journeyI received a copy of this book from Harper Impulse via NetGalley in return for an honest reviewCarrie Stone Thank you to Harper Impulse and Net Galley for a review copy of this book This is my honest reviewKate has been in a relationship with Alf for seven years Four yours ago she had a miscarriage and Alf and Kate never mention it Two years ago Alf implied there would be a proposal within a few years Hence it is now 2 years later and Kate s 32nd Birthday Alf has planned a party and a surprise for Kate which she is clearly hoping will be a proposal Nothing about the party is uite what Kate wants and seems a but surprised and how little Alfnew her And the real surprise of the evening was a puppy not a proposalKate realises that she and Alf can t continue like this and starts to see him in a far negative light Megan is Kate.
