Helen tells the story of her nanna nd her sisters nd the struggles they ll had in their lives whilst growing up in London Death by Tea and on the outskirts of London I found the book really interesting to begin with but I reachedbout 80% of the way through it Loyalty and Lies (Chastity Falls, and the story just started to get bit ll the same nd seemed to be dragging on Whilst this book was very interesting By Way Of A Wager and well written I found that it didn t really seem to be goingnywhere it lacked purpose I m not sure if it was of tribute of memories from the uthor to her family or whether the idea was to let everyone see the changes in Britain t the time of the era her Nan was round I doubt deny that this book gives great interest nd insight into what life in London would have been like back then I just didn t really feel the purpose it was written for was for me A family storyLoved the historical detail nd the interplay of relationships between the sisters But particularly when just listening on Audible I found it difficult to keep track of the relationships When Kingdom Comes and histories of the various siblings in each sister s family Might well have been just failing peculiar to me but the bility to consult pictorial family tree would have made the various family stories easier to follow The Wayward Bride (Besotted Scots, and the whole book even enjoyable I enjoyed the book but found it bit lackingIt is very much centred on the concept of fate nd bout the journey of the Such a Dance author hauntedblessed into following the same dramas her ncestors The characters re interesting nd well described but it is very much story of family heartache closed behind the door of their house I felt the world outside was only superficially pictured nd t the end I still didn t know much bout the life of women in the twenties nd forties which was what I was most interested in Heart rending. ‘Oh my goodness – La bte du marais another girl Mrs Swain’ Clara’s normal iron composure brokend she screamed ‘No That’s not the bloody deal’ And that is how my nanna Bertha Swain entered the world When Helen Batten’s marriage breaks down she starts on Laos: Keystone Of Indochina a journey of discovery into her family’s pastnd the mysteri.
